It's a sign
2002-03-11 - 10:32:18

There is a sign in front of a church near me that reads:

NO CHRISTIAN HAS EVER
RECANTED ON THEIR
DEATHBED

How presumtuous is that??

Of course, it is implied in the reading of this sentence that Christians would never recant their beliefs on their deathbed, but non-Christians would. Do you really think that someone who was brought up Hindu would suddenly recant their beliefs as they die? Or Muslim? Or Unitarian? Or Zoroastrian? Or Pagan?

And how do the people at this church just know that no Christian has ever recanted?? Who gave them all-knowing vision? Mind you, if confronted with someone who did recant the Christian God on their deathbed, the people of that church would probably say "Well, they weren't a real Christian anyway." How's that for a great debate tactic? :P

I don't like the bold, snotty assumption of the sign. It's too high and mighty for me.

What ever happened to "God is Love" ? Oh, I forgot, they don't tend to promote that view at right-wing fundamentalist churches. Love is for the week. Fire and brimstone; now that's preachin'!

BB, all.
