Wic-Can Fest, part I
2000-07-17 - 17:44:32

Yay! The beautiful and funky Fand signed my guestbook. Yes, Fand, I DO remember you! How could I possibly forget all the orange, and numerous calls of "L'IL... PINK... NIPPAALLLLLLL!" around the bonfire? :) Pagan Grrl Guides of the world, Unite! :)

This reminds me, I still need to tell everyone about Wic-Can Fest! Oh, how negligent of me. Well, where to begin?

PaganGrrl and I arrived at Wic-Can Fest at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon. After searching around the country side for a sign that said "Wic-Can Fest" (as the web site instructions said), we decided that the sign that said "Unicamp" was close enough. :) We turned down the road, and sure enough, there was Wic-can Fest!

We parked the car and went to register, a completely painless process which included kidding around with the registrars (always a good sign). Then we set off to find a camping spot.

Well, easier said than done! The place was already pretty full. We walked the entire camp, and every single identified camping spot was taken! Really! By the end of our trek around all of Unicamp, we came to the camp sites by the fire pit. One site had a few belongings in it, but nothing was set up, so we asked the women in the site next to that if those belongings were theirs (hoping against hope!). Alas, they were not, and the spot was claimed by a large "troll" - their words, not mine! :) But they figured that he would be more than delighted to share his camping site with two beautiful young women. Hmmm, was that a good thing or a bad thing? :) We were desperate, so we took the spot.

The women next to us were Sue and Lor. They had been to Fest before, and they were so welcoming and kind! We thought this must be a good sign. Even if this week was a bust, we'd still be camping next to some great women and will have made at least 2 friends!

After we'd set up the tent and gotten our space organized, we walked back up to the main area of the camp where we registered. We just sort of milled about for while, taking everything in, then we went back to the tent to get ready for the main ritual. We then trekked back up to the common area (in the main part of the camp) for the "rit." (oooh, pagan slang! ;)

There was a lot of trekking up and down from the upper area of the camp to our camping spot at the bottom. For simplicity's sake, I think I'll have to refer to it as "upper" and "lower" camp. Upper camp consists of the dining hall, staff housing, cabins, the majority of the workshop spaces, the showers, and some camping spaces. Lower camp was made up of a good portion of the camping spots, the big Fire Pit, and two beaches (one clothed and one clothing-optional). PaganGrrl's and my camping spot backed onto the clothed beach, so it was very convenient for swim! But DAMN, that lake was cold! (a favourite quote: "It looks like a penis, only smaller!")

_____________

... alas, it is time for supper. I'll have to continue this later when I'm not so close to passing out from lack of nurishment. ;) MP!
